ONE A DAY

One a day. We are diving headfirst into the busy new season of fall! And the holidays are quickly approaching! Now more than ever, I am relying on what I call my “one a day” rule. A few years back my husband and I created this rule for our lives. It not only helps us reduce stress but it also helps us to actually be more productive.

THE RULE IS THIS: I AM ONLY ALLOWED TO HAVE ONE MAJOR COMMITMENT A DAY

Let me explain. So many times we rush around all day. We do this for days or even weeks at a time. And we try to do too many things at once or all in one day. We don’t realize that the transition times waste a lot of time and leave us drained. Concentrating on one main task or activity each day allows the brain to rest in between activities. So, we can really focus when we are working or in meetings.

This is especially important for the days when I am at my job, of course. But even on my days off, I try to only commit to one. Maybe two organized activities at most depending on the time and energy they take.

NOWADAYS, WHEN I WRITE MY SCHEDULE DOWN, I MAKE SURE TO HAVE ONLY ONE COMMITMENT AFTER WORK AND TWO OR FEWER COMMITMENTS ON MY DAYS OFF

This rule has saved so much stress and also made a lot more room in my schedule. Now I can go for more peaceful and mindful walks.  And I can practice more gratitude and meditation!
