Tips from Dr B

The holiday season is in full swing! That means lots of parties, people, and great food to eat. How do we maintain balance to keep healthy and lower our stress during this busy season? Here are a few tips:

Keep Moving

  • Do something active at family gatherings:  Go for a walk together to check out neighborhood holiday decorations, go to a local park, or play a game out in the yard

  • Take the stairs when you can

  • Schedule time to work out at the gym - and stick to it!

Manage Stress

  • Keep a regular sleep schedule

  • Take some "me" time - meditate, read, go for a walk by yourself

  • Feel overwhelmed? Give yourself permission to say '"No" to attending some gatherings

 Watch  What You Eat

  • At a party? Fill half your plate with healthier foods first, then add the treats

  • Eat smaller portions of less healthy foods

  • Try some healthy substitutions with recipes: fat-free yogurt in place of mayonnaise or sour cream, applesauce in place of butter

Most of all, enjoy the season! Make memories with family and friends.
I'll talk about New Year's goals for my next Wellness Wednesday post in late December.
