PFP BARBELL METHOD: WHAT IS IT? WHO IS IT FOR?
Something new we are introducing at PFP in 2025 will be our PFP Barbell Method class. For current members, this may sound familiar, like PFP Method, our group fitness class we hold throughout the week at PFP. It is similar in terms of the length of the class and has a structure that should feel very recognizable.
What is it?
The class will be an hour long and designed to teach the basic fundamentals of the sport of weightlifting. Weightlifting, for the uninitiated, is a barbell sport that involves two main lifts, the snatch and clean and jerk. This class will revolve around teaching new and existing athletes the technical aspects of these lifts while also developing strength and movement competency. Additional movements like the squat, deadlift, presses, rows, and many other exercises will be included in this class.
So, Who is This Class For?
Anyone interested in group fitness: Many of our members come to PFP to be a part of group fitness classes because it's how they want to enjoy their fitness journey. They like the community aspects and the comradery that they feel in a fun class setting. PFP Barbell Method will be just that, a fun and engaging group setting where anyone who wants to learn, get stronger, and enjoy themselves can take part in our group class.
Former Functional Fitness Athletes: In the last 10 to 15 years, many people have taken an interest in functional fitness classes and gyms. These gym settings usually have classes with elements of barbell movements or even weightlifting classes. However, these gyms may not have had coaches specifically suited for these classes, or the classes may not have allowed for more specific attention to learning weightlifting movements. PFP Barbell Method classes can easily get the former functional fitness athlete back on track with their weightlifting technique and goals.
Current and new PFP Barbell Athletes: This new class will not only be available to incoming members or PFP method members, but to our current barbell athletes as well. PFP Barbell Method will offer technical skill development for all the barbell lifts. This means that if you're a current member who wants to come in and perform the prescribed lift for the day to work on an aspect of your snatches or cleans, then this class is perfect for that. This can also serve as a way for our barbell athletes to meet and interact with new members who join the gym.
Any off-season Athlete: Let’s say you're a high school or college athlete who needs a structured exercise plan to do when you’re not training for your in-season sport. PFP Barbell Method is the perfect class to keep you in shape and strong for the off-season. This class will have similar movements to any high school or collegiate strength and conditioning training program and is very accessible for anyone in the Pittsburgh area.
When Will it Be?
PFP Barbell Method will be offered 2 days a week with 2 classes per day. Morning and evening times will be available, similar to our other group classes.
